What is HEARO?More than a weather radio, HEARO is a specially designed FM receiver that gets messages from a local Emergency Warning System network. When power and telephones go out, HEARO keeps working for more than 60 hours. HEARO sends messages in English or Spanish. HEARO connects you to the police, fire, emergency management and city officials. As soon as an alert is issued, you will be notified and know how to respond – evacuate, take cover, boil water, and more. Why HEARO?As technology improves, people want faster and more informative alerts and warnings. The thirty to sixty minute messaging time of reverse emergency calling systems is not fast enough. HEARO sends local information simultaneously and immediately to thousands of receivers. How does HEARO work? You simply plug in HEARO and it automatically finds the strongest signal in the area. When alerts are sent, the HEARO is triggered to display the message and sound an alarm within seconds. The HEARO uses FM radio stations to transmit messages. Special technology called Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) sends the messages as well as weather alerts from NOAA. |
